Tips to Manage your Migraine

If you suffer from migraines, you'll try anything to ward off an attack. We've got a few simple tips that might make a difference.

Look out for warning signs

Recognising warning signs before an attack can be difficult, since migraines vary from person to person and these feelings may not be specific to migraines. They may include:

  • A change in mood
  • Tiredness
  • Excessive yawning
  • Food cravings

Recognising these signs may help in taking appropriate precautionary measures

Precautionary Measures

  • Being prepared – make sure you always keep your medication with you.
  • Sleeping – Irregular sleep patterns can trigger a migraine.
  • Avoiding migraine triggers – Always bear in mind your triggers. There are many possible migraine triggers, including hormonal, emotional, physical, dietary, environmental and medicinal factors. See Migraine Triggers for more examples.
  • Avoiding irregular eating patterns – Hunger can make you more susceptible to an attack, so remember irregular eating patterns are strong migraine triggers.
  • Staying hydrated – Drink plenty of water as dehydration can cause or make your migraine worse.

If you suffer from migraines you may find it useful to consult with your doctor to help. You may need to try several different types of treatments before finding the most effective one.
